I was running errands for an upcoming local film shoot on my ebike when I noticed an ebike dealership on Boulevard Francisco Mujica. The small warehouse space is home to Z-L Moto, a brand based in Mexico City and expanding across the country.
I went to check it out and see how their machines roll.
Electric Motorcycles With Pedal Backup
The first thing I saw was that these are some beefy bikes they sell. In fact, they are more electric motorcycles and scooters with the option to have pedals, which is super cool! They also have electric tricycles.
They offer five styles of electric motos, with prices ranging from $8,000 to $23,000 pesos. The two tricycles cost $22,000 to $25,000.
They have a good stock in their shop, especially of the lower priced models. Test rides are possible and I gave one a shot.
Test Riding Z-L Moto Luz
The first thing I noticed about the Luz is that it is solidly built. I’ve become used to the cheaper ebikes that feel a little rickety, and this moto certainly feels like quality between your legs.
The initial acceleration was silent, smooth, and effortless powered by the 1000 watt motor. It really surprised me how nice it felt, and I got that same feeling of joy from the first time I tried an electric bicycle.
The Luz has a large screen which shows your speed and battery level. I liked the rearview mirrors and the front light illuminated the road in front of me perfectly.
Should I Buy A Z-L Moto Electric Bicycle?
I think these machines are well-built and certainly worth the asking price. If you want more of an electric motorcycle than a bicycle, it will be perfect for you.
They are heavy and big, making them unsuitable for frequent car travel, carrying upstairs, or lifting at all. But, they are a great machine and I hope to see more of them on the streets of La Paz and Baja California Sur.
